PEDIATRIC ANESTHESIA
Anesthesia can be safely and efficiently administered to pediatric patients in an office based setting. There are a few special considerations specifically for our youngest patients.
Breast milk may be ingested for up to 4 hours before elective procedures requiring anesthesia.
A light meal, nonhuman milk, or infant formula may be ingested for up to 6 hours before elective procedures requiring anesthesia.
After the procedure, we will allow parents to the recovery area as soon as it’s safe for the patient and staff. Your child will likely be asleep or disoriented; it takes time for the body to metabolize the anesthesia.
Follow the post operative care instructions from your provider. Tylenol is the ideal medication for post op pain management (unless otherwise specified by your surgeon or anesthesiologist.)
